DENSITY without crowding, better public spaces with more outdoor dining and entertainment, and less reliance on cars as a mode of transport should be the focus of planners in the wake of COVID-19 according to city planner, Australian urban futurist and former Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide, Stephen Yarwood.

Speaking at a UDIA WA webinar The Future of cities – how will a global pandemic influence urban design, he said rather than looking for a new normal, it was time for a “better normal” with federal, state and local governments, developers and citizens sharing responsibility for change.
