The Cook Government’s decision to repeal the controversial Aboriginal cultural heritage act has been met with widespread relief from peak bodies across a range of industries.

The Urban Development Institute of Australia in WA, which represents property developers in the State, welcomed the news.

Chief executive Tanya Steinbeck said Premier Roger Cook had made a “necessary decision”.

Although she was surprised by the backflip, Ms Steinbeck said it was a welcome opportunity to consult and reset.

“The key from here will be ensuring clear communication around what happens next… we need to make sure that the consultation that occurs is comprehensive,” she said.
