Program Summary
UDIA WA’s Leadership Program is focused on supporting professionals in Western Australia’s urban development industry to develop or build on their people leadership skills. This program includes leadership learning, invaluable mentoring from an industry leader to apply and embed the theoretical knowledge, and opportunities for networking and industry exposure.
UDIA WA has designed this program to equip and empower professionals with the transition into effective people leadership within our industry.
Who Should Attend?
Experienced professionals (with a minimum of five years’ experience) who are:
- currently in people leadership roles and wish to refresh or boost their skills;
- relatively new to or transitioning into people leadership roles wanting to develop their leadership skills;
- aspiring leaders seeking to accelerate their leadership journey.
The comprehensive leadership program consists of two components – with participants being able to register for Component 1 only (Effective People Leadership Fundamentals One Day Course), or for both Component 1 and 2 (Industry Mentoring and Applied Learning – UDIA WA members only)
Course Outline
Component 1 – Effective People Leadership Fundamentals One Day Course
This one day course delivered with AIM WA introduces the fundamentals of effective people leadership, with elements of content tailored to WA’s urban development industry. The course is facilitated by speakers from AIM WA, with two industry leaders from UDIA WA’s membership sharing their leadership journeys and key learnings.

Component 2 – Industry Mentoring and Applied Learning (UDIA WA members only)
This structured mentoring component will be for a duration of 6 months after the completion of Component 1. It consists of:
- Personal Leadership Development Planning – You will have the opportunity to undertake a 360 degree feedback process and DISC profiling exercise to compile a SWOT analysis and draft a development plan. Based on your goals, and aspirations you will be matched with a suitable mentor.
- Introduction to Mentoring Session – A UDIA WA facilitated cohort meet and greet will be arranged for the mentees and mentors to gain insight into the mentorship program, what is expected and how to get the best out of this opportunity. This is also a platform to network and establish connections with in the group.
- One-on-One Mentoring – You will participate in four mentoring sessions with your assigned mentor. These sessions can be scheduled over the course of five months, with the ideal frequency being one session per month. This additional month offers flexibility to accommodate the schedules of both the mentor and mentee. The mentoring session location, day, and time will be mutually agreed upon between you and your mentor.
- Networking – You will have an opportunity to network and connect with other UDIA WA industry experts by attending one of the UDIA WA Industry Lunch.
- Check-In Session – You will have the opportunity to have a check-in with a senior UDIA WA staff member (i.e. Director or CEO)
- Industry Exposure – Your involvement and journey as a member of the mentoring cohort will be shared through UDIA WA’s communication channels (i.e LinkedIn, The Urbanist or Urban Express)
- Reflection Session – You will have the opportunity to participate with your peers in an end of program session focused on learning reflections and sharing of experiences and forward learning and development intentions. You will be able to update your SWOT as you reflect on your learning and experiences to draft your forward learning plan.
