Public amenity, significant sustainability features and attention to detail have helped Stirling Capital’s Cirque Mt Pleasant apartment development win the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s most prestigious award.

Cirque beat a record number of nominations to be named the winner of both the Russel Perry Award for Urban Development Excellence and high-density development category at Saturday’s award ceremony. Stirling Capital managing director Luke Reinecke said the awards recognised not only the value they placed on design excellence, but also on building community engagement into its projects.

Located in the Canning Bridge precinct, Cirque has a range of community amenities including new streetscaping, an artenhanced pedestrian link and community space at street level.

Increased setbacks achieve the smallest solar impact of the buildings and deliver the best possible outcome for the community.

The first of two complementary towers, the project also achieved the first 5 Star Green Star design rating in WA from the Green Building Council of Australia providing significant reductions in energy and water use.

“The mix of high rise, medium density, urban renewal, along with the more traditional new land developments taking centre stage at the awards reflect the changing nature of Perth and
WA’s urban landscape,” according to UDIA WA chief executive Tanya Steinbeck.

“While we continue to see young families looking to the suburbs for larger family homes, there is a growing cohort of new homebuyers seeking smaller, lock-and-leave homes that offer a range of lifestyle options,” Ms Steinbeck said.

“Cirque has successfully tapped into the growing downsizer market, with a significant number of buyers from the surrounding area looking to swap their larger, family homes for an easier care, convenient lifestyle.”

UDIA WA president Nick Allingame said the awards showcased the best of the best in urban development and represented the growing diversity of projects.

“Receiving so many nominations is a testament to the resilience and innovation of the urban development industry in the midst of challenging market conditions across the State,” Mr Allingame said.
