Restricted land supply and relatively slow construction has forced WA land sales down by more than a fifth in the first quarter of the year.

New figures from the Urban Development Institute of Australia (WA), show there were 1,880 new land sales in the March 2022 quarter, down 22 per cent.

Ms Steinbeck said the industry has been hampered by materials and skills shortages that had constrained the ability to deliver land to the market.

“I think we would be seeing higher sales figures if industry was able to deliver more land to the market in a greater variety of locations,” Ms Steinbeck said.

The UDIA figures highlight how the current residential construction boom is smaller than the previous boom, and that construction is slower.
