Property industry leader Col Dutton was elected State President of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA WA) at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday.

Mr Dutton is General Manager, Residential at Stockland Western Australia and has more than 20 years’ experience working in the property industry around the country.

UDIA WA is the peak organisation representing the urban development industry in Western Australia.

“I am honoured to be appointed President of an industry body that has such a positive reputation for working collaboratively with stakeholders across industry, government and the community,” Mr Dutton said.

“UDIA WA is the lead organisation advocating for the development industry’s role in creating smart, sustainable and liveable communities for the people of WA and that is such a critical role, particularly at a time when Perth is maturing and we are looking at how the city and regions can grow and develop to accommodate our diversifying population,” Mr Dutton said.

Mr Dutton leads Stockland’s delivery of affordable, diverse housing in Perth as well as driving a focus on mixed use town centres and medium density developments in greenfield and infill locations across Perth.

With a professional background that spans senior roles in property and local government and qualifications in engineering, Mr Dutton has an in depth understanding of the broad range of industry issues that UDIA WA is involved in.

“As UDIA WA President, I plan to maintain the important relationships with key stakeholders that my predecessors have worked so hard to develop and I will ensure that the Institute continues to work positively with government to achieve shared outcomes,” Mr Dutton said.

“My immediate priority is continuing to advocate strongly for the package of policy support measures to reinvigorate the residential property market that we presented to state government last week,” Mr Dutton said.

“As we have said, the residential market has reached a critical point where the state of the property industry is having a direct impact on jobs and growth in our economy,” Mr Dutton said.

“UDIA WA welcomed the Premier and Treasurer’s announcement earlier this week in regard to the 75% stamp duty rebate for off the plan apartments as an important move that will encourage more people to consider higher density living options,” Mr Dutton said.

“Moving forward, we would like to see our full suite of recommendations seriously considered by government, as it is a well thought out and strategically designed package to stimulate the residential market across the board,” Mr Dutton said.

Mr Dutton takes over the role of State President from outgoing President Nick Allingame.
