The Premier says Perth needs to move away from its reliance on urban sprawl, while emphasising the importance of densification in regional Western Australia.

Speaking at an Association of Consulting Architects event, Roger Cook said the state faced “continued and extraordinary challenges” including an increasing and ageing population.

“There’s a growing sentiment across WA that the old quarter acre block and continued greenfield development is no longer sustainable,” he said.

“We need to diversity the type of housing, the quantity of housing and the modes of housing construction if we’re going to meet a lot of these challenges.”
