The state government’s plan to override local government planning regimes in several local councils is progressing, despite some scepticism from industry.
Planning Minister John Carey today announced that the state’s peak planning body had approved an improvement plan around 10 train station precincts.
The plan stipulates allowable density for these areas, from high to medium depending on proximity to the stations.
Flagged in November last year, Ballajura, Bassendean, Carlisle, Claisebrook, Cottesloe, Glendalough, Morley, Mosman Park, Redcliffe and Swanbourne are all subject to the plan.
The government says it has taken this approach due to resistance from local councils to density and a lack of progress in some of these areas.
