The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA WA) has appointed Tanya Steinbeck to the position of Chief Executive Officer, commencing in mid-November 2018.

Ms Steinbeck has a wealth of property development industry experience in WA across the private, government and peak body sectors.

“The UDIA WA State Council, is very pleased to welcome Tanya Steinbeck to the team,” UDIA WA President Nick Allingame said.

“Ms Steinbeck has a proven track record in senior management roles and will bring dynamic, informed and strong leadership to the Institute so that we can continue to successfully represent our members, work collaboratively with government and promote best practice in property development in our state,” Mr Allingame said.

Ms Steinbeck is currently the Executive Director – Regional Services Reform Unit at the Department of Communities. The Reform Unit was created to deliver systemic change to improve the lives of Aboriginal people living in regional and remote communities in Western Australia.

As part of her role, Ms Steinbeck leads a team of 44 staff located right across WA and oversees several multi-million dollar projects.

Prior to that, Ms Steinbeck was responsible for delivery of the Social Housing Investment Package at the Department of Communities where she directed the implementation of the $560 million program.

“The UDIA Council was impressed by Tanya’s breadth of experience within government as well as the leadership roles she has had in major development companies and in running her own private consultancy businesses,” Mr Allingame said.

“We look forward to working with Tanya to drive the Institute’s important policy and advocacy agenda in the coming months and beyond,” Mr Allingame said. “Her strategic thinking and communications skills along with knowledge of many facets of the property industry will be an asset to UDIA moving forward.”

Ms Steinbeck says she is excited about the opportunity to lead the organisation and work with the development industry to deliver thriving, sustainable communities.

“I’m looking forward to driving policy and planning reform on behalf of a sector that creates significant economic and social value for the people of WA,” Ms Steinbeck said.

Ms Steinbeck was the inaugural UDIA WA Women in Leadership Award winner in 2016 and received a commendation for the award at a national level in 2017.

Tanya Steinbeck takes over the role of CEO of UDIA WA from Allison Hailes, who is leaving to move overseas after close to three years in the role.
