The number of potential downsizers in WA has grown by 25,000 in two years but many will be forced to stay in empty nests because of the growing shortfall of smaller homes.

New research to be revealed by the Urban Development Institute of Australia (WA) on Wednesday show there are about 190,000 people who want to, or are currently planning to downsize, and mostly within a two-year time frame.

Research by downsizer.com shows the number of potential downsizers has grown 14 per cent jump since 2021 — based on a survey of 52,000 people.
