On Saturday night, UDIA WA were delighted to celebrate the incredible people and projects entered into the 2022 Awards for Excellence at our annual Gala Dinner.

The night was a big success with Golden Bay by Peet Ltd and DevelopmentWA taking home the highly coveted Russel Perry Award for Urban Development Excellence in addition to winning in the Excellence in Social & Community Infrastructure category.

Equally sought-after are the two Judges Awards which this year were handed to The Rivergums by Cedar Woods Properties and Subi East Aboriginal Manager Development Program by DevelopmentWA & Karrda. Two extremely different but both highly deserving of the Judges Discretionary awards that recognise outstanding achievement or innovation in a particular aspect of a development project.

Throughout the night we celebrated the incredible diversity of development that is happening, particularly in Perth, with projects from larger, masterplanned estates through to smaller lot and town house developments recognised for quality, innovation and sustainability.

Another masterplanned community that was noted for how it caters to the community is Beaumaris by Satterley.  The well-established development was recognised as the best in the Masterplanned Development Category.

Beaumaris represents Satterley’s 30-year vision, which remains just as relevant to today’s buyers, with the developer successfully implementing a long-term plan for housing, recreation and commercial land uses that provides residents with all the right ingredients to live, work and play in their local area.

Satterley was also successful in the Residential Development category, with infill community The Hales winning in that category.

Development of The Hales, in the foothills of the Darling Scarp, began in 2016 and is now complete with 460 lots, ranging from 156sqm town home lots to lots over 500sqm. This successful development has only a few lots remaining for sale and will become home to approximately 1200 residents.

Several medium density projects were successful in this year’s award program, with Canopy by Stockland winning the Medium Density Category and Celsius Property winning in the Small Scale Development Category for Park Terraces.

Canopy is an infill project located in Glendalough featuring green titled, terrace homes that complement the existing area and offer residents a balance between inner city living and green, spacious community.

With ten design configurations, each home offers outdoor living space, a private garage and a choice of four custom curated colour schemes.

The award judges noted that Park Terraces new terrace homes, located in Montario Quarter, were exceptionally designed and offer residents a unique communal garden on the level one podium that can be accessed by all 12 homes.

Winner of the Affordable Development category, Nicheliving Tapping offers buyers high quality, affordable home options with a starting price of $389,000 that are ideally located within close proximity to existing infrastructure, facilities, and amenities such as public transport, schools, hospitals, recreational facilities and shopping centres.

In the Environmental Excellence category, Exchange at Curtin University was recognised for a clear commitment to long term sustainability.

Exchange, the first stage of the Greater Curtin Masterplan, goes beyond the traditional notion of a university campus by developing a multidimensional and sustainable precinct, through the delivery of education facilities, a hotel and short stay accommodation, two student colleges, retail, commercial, and a public transport interchange.

The project maintains a world leading 6 Star Green Star rating and uses that to accelerate energy efficiency and sustainability.

In the Seniors Living Category, Rosewood West Perth by Rosewood Care Group won due to the wonderfully warm and inviting living environment for residents, while the project adds significant value to the amenity of the surrounding suburb.

The Urban Renewal category was won by the ABN Building by Hesperia.  Hesperia was also recognised with their Rivermark development winning the Excellence in Marketing Category.

The Diversity in Development Award this year was won by Mirvac WA. This award seeks to acknowledge, encourage and most importantly, promote diversity in development within the WA property industry. The judges said Mirvac has shown real and demonstrated benefits as well as living examples of their commitment to diversity that has benefited the organisation and its people.

Each of the category winners will now represent WA at the UDIA National Awards for Excellence which will be presented as the Finale to the 2023 UDIA National Congress, set to be held in Perth on 27-29 March 2023. More information here.
