Building upon the Perth and Peel @3.5m Sub-regional Frameworks 47% infill development target, the State Government recently released its ‘Our Priorities’ document, setting out a number of policy objectives. Included amongst these, the Government has set a target of increasing the number of homes in Perth in close proximity to public transport to 45% by 2031.

Whilst the Government’s policy framework and development industry response to delivering apartments and higher density development is well established, the policy framework governing medium density housing needs to be strengthened to support the delivery of the ‘missing middle,’ particularly if the Governments new development objectives are to be met. Despite these challenges, a number of ‘missing middle’ projects within Metropolitan Perth’s central sub-region have recently emerged.

Ray Haeren, Regional Director- Urbis will present the findings of Urbis’ research examining the emerging trends in medium density housing and how the industry has been able to respond to market demand for this type of housing.
