FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THREE-STEP PLAN

The Federal Government released details of its three-step plan for reopening the Australian economy in a COVID-safe way. The key emphasis of the plan is to monitor and manage any outbreaks and advice from the Government on the best way to do this is to download the COVID-safe app.

As part of the three-step plan, the Federal Government is hopeful the whole country will be able to reach step 3 by the July, however the true timeline of the relaxation of restrictions will be dictated by the individual States and Territories.

Step One involves a relaxation on rules around indoor gatherings, with five visitors allowed at home and 10 in businesses and public places. People should continue to work from home if it works for them and their employers. Restaurants, cafes, shopping centres, libraries, community centres, playgrounds and boot camps should open under the first step. Local and regional travel should also be allowed, but this will ultimately be determined by the State or Territory Government.

Step Two involves gatherings of up to 20 in homes, businesses and public places. Gyms, beauty salons, cinemas, galleries and amusement parks can open under this step and some interstate travel will be allowed.

Step Three involves gathering restrictions lifted to 100 people. It will also see people return to workplaces, nightclubs and food courts reopened and all interstate travel up and running.
